The opportunity to work where she earned her undergraduate degree, as well as furthering her education, is what lead Donna Valestro, director of business and finance, to become part of the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus family.
“What I like about working at Southern Miss Gulf Coast is the people and the diverse learning opportunities,” said Donna, who has been with the university for over 5 years. These opportunities include being a member of various committees, including Staff Council Executive Committee, University Assessment Committee, and Contract Management Committee, among many others.
In January 2012, Donna started the Ph.D. program in the Department of Human Capital Development (HCD) on the Gulf Park campus. Being both an employee and student at Southern Miss, Donna finds that she does not have much free time. However, she will soon take one more class and her comprehensive exam to complete her coursework. Then her focus will turn to her dissertation.
“The HCD program is the best thing I have ever done for myself, with the exception of being the mother of two wonderful children!”
Donna adds that boating and being on the water is when she is at peace. In addition to being a health, music, and pet enthusiast, she enjoys the family construction business, especially decorating or staging homes.
